Dog bathing can be a real challenge and the challenge does not end when you turn off the water. Now you have a very wet dog or cat and all they want to do is start running all over the house and shake all that water from their fur.

Small dogs especially need to shake really fast to fling the water from their fur. A larger dog will accomplish the same at a slower shake rate! They do this not for fun but to feel dry, secure and warm again as quickly as possible.

They may enjoy the shake to get dry tremendously but we usually do not appreciate wet furniture and carpeting. So how do you dry that wet pet quickly? Once you get that wet pet out of the tub or sink you typically get 30 to 60 seconds before your furry friend escapes! A Rinse Ace Microfiber Towel will be a great help. This extra large towel absorbs water very quickly allowing just one pass to soak up a lot of water. Do not be deceived by the thickness of the towel, this towel absorbs a lot of water! The extra large 30 by 48 inch towel will cover your dog and will dry your wet pet fast! This will minimize discomfort for your pet and reduce chills. Please make sure your dog is completely dry before you let him or her outside again, especially in the winter!

The towel is ultra soft and can be machine washed. Dryer safe, but do not use dryer softener sheets. This towel will last you for years.

Do you have any dog drying tips to share, we would love to hear from you!

Do you own a Cockatoos or a Parrot?

Cockatoos are recognizable by the showy crests and curved bills. Their plumage is generally less colorful than that of other parrots, being mainly white, grey or black and often with colored features in the crest, cheeks or tail. On average they are larger than other parrots. Parrots are usually very colorful.

Parrots, along with ravens, crows, jays and magpies, are among the most intelligent birds, and the ability of some species to imitate human voices enhances their popularity as pets.

Cockatoos and parrots are often very affectionate with their owner and at times other people but can demand a great deal of attention. Furthermore, their intense curiosity means they must be given a steady supply of objects to tinker with, chew, dismantle and destroy or other stimuli like petting, talking with, bathing or hand feeding. Parrots in captivity may suffer from boredom, which can lead to stereotypical behavior patterns, such as feather-plucking.

To prevent feather plucking and other boredom related issues environmental enrichment is important to improve or maintain an animal’s physical and psychological health by increasing range or number of species-specific behaviors, increasing positive utilization of the captive environment, preventing or reducing the frequency of abnormal behaviors.

Parrots should be given a birdbath in their cage 2-3 times a week to let them bathe themselves. Fill it with warm water only, no soaps or detergents. Alternatively, some birds like to be sprayed with warm water and this would be a great time to spend with your bird in the shower. Your parrot will need at least two hours of time with you per day. It can be time out of the cage flying, sitting being stroked and talked to, shower or training time.

Many parrots can live 50, 70 or 100 years. If you aren’t ready for this sort of long-term commitment, don’t get a parrot. Many bond very tight with their owners, and if you need to give him up later, he will have a very hard time adjusting. Think of your parrot as a 4 or 5 year old child – his responses to many emotional situations will be very similar to a young child’s.

Rinse Ace has a unique shower product just made for the larger birds. The Shower Misting Bird Bather. This removable Shower Sprayer was developed just for birds, mimicking the Rainforest mist. Your bird will love it and so will you, simply hook up the sprayer when needed and after the bird bath you can use the sprayer to clean the shower. Then simply remove it and the shower is ready for you again.

Do you have a bird that you take into the shower with you? We would love your comments.

Tips for helping someone bathe.

Whether you are needing to help someone with bathing after surgery, an elderly individual who is not so sure-footed anymore, someone suffering from dementia who might need some reassurance, a young child, or any other situation it is good to keep some of these basic safety features in mind.

Make sure you are in the bathroom with the person to prevent falls.

Remember, people who just had surgery can become very light headed in a warm shower quickly and could faint.

Shower Accessories

Check the water temperature before assisting the individual

Keep clean towels close by

Make sure you have all the needed supplies handy

Soap

Shampoo

Wound Dressing Materials

Lotions and cremes

Washcloths

Plastic covers to keep surgery area’s or hair dry (Press and Seal wrap works great!)

Anti slip mat in the shower or tub

Make sure you help the individual into the tub or shower. If a surgery took place, take care not to get the incision area very wet and remove bandages if your doctor has instructed you to do so. Do not get soap or shampoo in the incision. Dry well after the shower with a clean towel and pat the incision area dry. Do not rub!

To really direct the waterflow, especially when a surgical area is involved, a handheld shower can be of great help. If you do not have a handheld, or do not like the idea of a permanent hose with no flow control at the sprayer level, the Rinse Ace Assisted Bather is the solution for you. It comes with a one time install Shower Connector which is placed in between the showerhead and the pipe coming out of the wall. (shower arm). To this you quick connect a hose with a flow control at the sprayer when needed for assisting with a shower. When done, disconnect the hose, store it in a drawer or cabinet and your shower will be ready for normal use again. If you like to keep the hose connected for a few weeks while someone recovers from surgery. This is possible. The Assisted Bather comes with a suction mount bracket for storing the hose sprayer when it is not in use. Please remember tho, the shower head will not work as long as the hose is attached in the Shower Connector. Also, always make sure you turn of the water at the water controls and release the pressure on the hose when done showering.

Do you have any additional comments? We would love to see them.

Congratulations!

You have just brought your new bundle of joy home. A whole new era has arrived and there are so many new things to learn. Lots of things you have never even really thought about. Some of these may seem simple and are after some practice but at first it is intimidating. How you you change that diaper, dress that little baby, feed it, wash it?

Let Rinse Ace help you with some bathing tips and take one of these how to’s and turn it in a know how!

Safety is of course paramount.

Never leave your baby unsupervised, even for a minute. If the doorbell or phone rings and you feel you must answer it, scoop him up in a towel and take him with you.

Check the water temperature of the water with your elbow (your hands are used to hot water so they are not a good gauge) before putting your baby in the bath.

Set your water heater to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. A child can get third-degree burns in less than a minute at 140 degrees.

Never leave your child unattended. (Yes, it’s so important we listed it twice). A child can drown in less than an inch of water—and in less than 60 seconds.

Now – how to bathe.

The first week, until the umbilical cord falls off a sponge bath is sufficient.

After the first week you and your baby can have fun at the kitchen sink.

You can purchase a little baby bath that sits on top of the sink, but you can even simply clean the sink well, put in a little anti slip mat (or small towel), plug the sink and use the sink itself.

If you do not have a faucet sprayer a Rinse Ace Sink Baby Rinser or Deluxe Sink Baby Rinser is a must have. Even when you do have a sink faucet sprayer, they do not have a variable flow so the Rinse Ace Sink Baby Rinser would still be a better choice

Simply switch out your current aerator on the faucet with the special Rinse Ace aerator (you only have to do this once)

Snap the quick connect over the aerator and you are ready to wash.

The variable flow sprayer lets you put a gentle flow on babies head, and you can increase the flow to wash the bottom really well!

Do not use a rinse cup, who wants to put recycled water on babies head? Yes not me!

Enjoy your special time – it will not last long enough!

Have some additional bathing tips – we would love to hear from you! Post a comment.

Your dog needs a bath but he is really afraid of the tub or the sink.

Most often this is not because your dog does not like the water but it is because he can not stand securely in the shower tub or the sink. Your dog will slip all over the tub floor and if they have long nails can really scratch your tub. Give your dog confidence by using a sink or tub bathing mat. Dogs are remarkably unsure on slippery surfaces. Ever watched a dog sitting on a hardwood floor? You start petting them and they relax a little and soon enough the back ends starts to slide out from underneath them! Imagine how unsure a tub or sink surface must feel to them.

Rinse Ace tub or sink bathing mats will suction securely to the floor of your tub or sink and will provide a safe surface for your pet. All of a sudden you will not be fighting with your dog and they will stand in the tub or sink without being scared. Now the bath is fun for both of you. Your dog is sure footed, the spray of warm water is comforting and with a good pet sprayer with adjustable flow (like the Rinse Ace 3-Way Pet Shower Sprayer), a great time will be had by both of you.

The other great benefit of the Rinse Ace Bathing Mats is that they will catch a lot of hair. It is a mat and a hair catcher all in one! Nobody wants this hair to go down the drain to plug the drain so the mat catches most of it before it goes down the drain. After the bath simply wipe away the hair, rinse the mat and suction it to your tub wall to dry. After drying store with your other pet bathing supplies.

When the bath is done. Dry your dog with a nice large microfiber towel like the Rinse Ace Large Microfiber Towel. Microfiber towels are great for drying a pet as they are always very wet and are not wanting to be dried at all. They just want to shake and rub their wet bodies all over the furniture! So the trick is to dry them as fast as you can before they “escape”. A microfiber towel absorbs a lot more water quicker than a regular towel would.

Sometimes it is hard for a toddler to learn to love the shower. But with the help of the Rinse Ace My Own Shower, this is made much easier! The shower can and should be a great time for you and your child to have some fun together and to bond. Teaching them how to wash themselves and playing water games while spending one on one time. The key to a fun time in the shower is to make sure your child does not get water in their face. Water in your eyes, up the nose and in the ears is not fun for anyone!

Having a children’s showerhead, like the Rinse Ace Children’s Showerhead with a spray that is softer than a usual adult shower and at your child’s height is ideal. You can even place the removable showerhead low enough so that it is not possible to get water in a child’s face while they are standing. When you and your child are done in the shower, simply remove the hose from the Shower Connector and the shower is ready for your spouse. For child safety we recommend you store the children’s showerhead in a cabinet but of course it can be left suctioned to the wall as well, as long as it is disconnected, the regular shower will work.

The showerhead comes in two different versions, with a cute dolphin or blowfish character. If you own a large multi setting showerhead we recommend you use our Metal Shower Connector. All of our product available in retail stores comes with a plastic Shower Connector. 17 Years ago when we started our company, nobody had large heavy showerheads so the Plastic Shower Connectors were great. However with larger and multi setting showerheads the use of a Metal Shower Connector is recommended for additional strength. Metal Shower Connector versions of our product in various finishes are available on our website. Make sure you click on the select a finish pull down to see all the available choices.

Did you know that the Idea Factory (Rinse Ace is one of our brands) tries to use US sources for packaging and production as much as possible? When we get really busy we use the services of MCFI Solutions for our My Own Shower packaging. (Milwaukee Center for Independence). This Milwaukee based company specializes in employing people with disabilities.

What “tricks” did you use to get your toddler to like a shower? We would love to read your comments.

Trivia Shower / Bathroom Facts.

43 percent of homes in the U.S. have two or more bathrooms.

1994 was the year that federally mandated low-flow showerheads, faucets, and toilets started to appear on the scene in significant number.

If you use a low-flow showerhead, you can save 15 gallons of water during a 10-minute shower

433 million miles of toilet paper is how much Americans use annually and this could stretch to the sun and back.

Pomegranates studded with cloves were used as the first attempt at making toilet air-freshner.

Going to the movies remember, the first toilet cubicle in a row is the least used (and consequently cleanest).

The toilet is flushed more times during the super bowl halftime than at any time during the year.

Ninety percent of pharmaceuticals taken by people are excreted through urination. As a result our sewer systems contain large doses of the excreted drugs.

A toilet consumes more water than any other appliance in the home. A normal person flushes close to twenty gallons of fresh potable water everyday.

Do you have a fun showerfact that you would like to share? Post them below and if I get enough of them I will compile them all together into a future blog article!

Here is a trivia question for you; “Do you know what a contrast shower is?” Post your guess below! I will post the answer next week but in the mean time if you are eager to find out if your guess is correct- you could look through our Facebook page and you might just find the answer!

Look, I can shower just like you Mom!

This is not an uncommon question and one where there is no “magical” age this should happen. When your child can safely stand in a shower and does not mind feeling water on his or her head. You may want to have a non-slip mat in the shower if you do not have a non slip surface. If you have been using the Rinse Ace® Tub & Shower Baby & Toddler Rinser your child would be used to this sooner than when all you are using is a rinse cup. Please remember tho, most young children would rather sit and play in a tub than stand and wash in the shower. Wait until he or she is interested in showering like mommy or daddy. When your child does, I would encourage you to get him used to the process first and using a Rinse Ace® My Own Shower will help tremendously.

Here is a simple quick list of stepping stones:

Hold them in your arms- this provides security

Use a non-slip surface if your tub does not have this – provides sure footedness

Have them stand in the shower without the water running

Have your child watch you, or an older sibling take a shower – provides examples

Install a My Own Shower and show them how it work

Start with aiming the My Own Shower at chest level so they do not have the water spraying in their face.

Gradually move the character showerhead higher until it is placed slightly above their head.

Always supervise the shower until about age 6.

The My Own Shower has a special soft spray especially designed for a child and being at the child’s level, will greatly ease any anxiety your child may have. For you as a parent, it is easy to install. Remove your showerhead just once, screw the special Shower Connector on the shower arm. Put showerhead on the Shower Connector. Now quick connect the kids showerhead hose to the Shower Connector, place dolphin or blowfish showerhead at your child’s level with the suction cups and you are done. When your child is done with the shower, remove the hose from the Shower Connector and the shower is ready for you again. You can leave it “stuck” to the wall but for additional safety, please remove.

To make shower cleaning easy as well, you can purchase just a Rinse Ace hose and attach this to the Shower Connector and clean and rinse the shower in no time! There are several kinds available (2 different lengths and 4 different sprayers).

See the kids shower in action here: http://youtu.be/3ALNRFwtN8Y
